"Mark's Wild Years" - PremRock
Posted by Justin Boland on Sep 13, 2013 | 0 Comments
Not too many rappers in this crazy world are dedicating albums to the legacy of Tom Waits. PremRock’s latest project manages to balance between sprawling and cohesive, painting a dozen memorable stories over productions from Willie Green, Steel Tipped Dove and Zilla Rocca. As Dr. Quandary put it: “This album is amazing. That is all.”

"Freedom" - MaG
Posted by Justin Boland on Sep 12, 2013 | 0 Comments
This was released in January, but I still come back to it often. MaG is an artist who has grown a lot over the past few years — and where he’s at now is honest, compelling and pretty damn funky, too. He’s got intricate bars, an adventurous flow and a hell of a lot to say. Freedom is highly recommended.

"Girls, Nachos" - ShowYouSuck
Posted by Justin Boland on Sep 10, 2013 | 0 Comments
Chicago’s ShowYouSuck is one of my favorite rappers these days and this video is pure DMT. A lot of press coverage treats this cat like a goofy joke but this is dead-serious trap surrealism. (Or something.) Director Aaron Perkins Jr has created a gleefully unhinged piece of work here.

"Secret Garden 2" - DLoaw & Co.
Posted by Justin Boland on Sep 09, 2013 | 0 Comments
DLoaw & Co. are a trio of “sound diggers” from France, Belgium and Greece…and these folks have superb taste. Secret Garden 2 is a rare treat of a compliation, diverse but cohesive, featuring quality instrumental hip hop from genre heavyweights like Dirty Art Club, Mononome & Jon Kennedy. (You might also find a tasty composition from Dr. Quandary in the mix, too.)

Daimyo & Friends
Posted by Justin Boland on Sep 08, 2013 | 0 Comments
It makes sense that the first LP from Daimyo would be 30 tracks long. A multi-instrumentalist, composer type who linked up with World Around when he was 15 years old, his interests are too wide-ranging and ambitious for a normal sized album.

"Breakup Music" - Humpasaur Jones
Posted by Justin Boland on Sep 03, 2013 | 0 Comments
Sure, I’m posting this to Audible Hype my own shit, but i can at least give an honest account of how this project got created. This is a six track EP that took four or five years to make, depending on your religious beliefs about the moment of conception. I have procrastinated, over-thought and second-guessed this beautiful nightmare for way too long and it feels great to have it done.

Bill Hicks Was Right
Posted by Justin Boland on Apr 10, 2013 | 0 Comments
Apparently, it’s been a little while since I updated this here Audible Hype web-thingy. I’ve stopped doing artist interviews, stopped reading about music marketing, and most definitely stopped paying attention to the 50+ submissions hitting my inbox every day. The proper thing to do would be make a token gesture of apology, but shit, we’re all adults here.
The emails have been too heavy lately, though. Too many people asking “What happened?” and too many article requests to ignore. What follows, therefore, is a wide-ranging update on where I’m at, what’s changed, and what hasn’t.

7 Things to do the Week Before Your Release
Posted by Kosha Dillz on May 15, 2012 | 0 Comments
If you are anything like me, which is an obsessive compulsive hustler that would rather sort through 500 business cards and procrastinate until the last day of a release to get anything done, I have prepared a little checklist for you to get ready to push your release, whether it be a video or a single or something else. Don’t worry: its gonna be okay.
