Malkovich: Malkovich Malkovich, Malkovich
Posted by Justin Boland on Jan 11, 2011 | 0 Comments
The weirdest shit has been happening to me lately: I get random self-promotion emails from rappers who are actually really damn good. After two years operating with a 99% bullshit level, all of a sudden I got about a dozen genuinely talented contacts in less than a month. Malkovich is one of them. He hails from Los Angeles and spits some effortlessly nasty quality…

"Haven't You Heard?" | 8 Track Mix from Dr. Quandary
Posted by Justin Boland on Jan 11, 2011 | 0 Comments
I spent the morning formatting interviews and bumping this mix from Dr. Quandary in the MDR-7506’s. I figured it was fresh enough to inflict on the entire Internets - if you’re up on SigNif, Greydon Square or Witness, you already know this will be an innovative treat…

Magestik Legend on Building a Foundation
Posted by Justin Boland on Jan 10, 2011 | 0 Comments
Magestik Legend is one of my favorite rappers, period. Detroit Native, Scribble Jam veteran, he’s evolved an intricate, cinematic style and writes some of the best lyrics anywhere. That’s not what this interview is about, though. What’s exceptional about Magestik Legend’s hustle is the long term vision he’s had since day one: he understands the entire production chain and he’s built a team to execute everything in-house. The result gives him total creative control and a strong business foundation. He was gracious enough to talk shop here about organization, discipline and DIY everything…

Fresh Daily Makes it Happen
Posted by Justin Boland on Jan 05, 2011 | 0 Comments
When I made up a list of people to interview in 2010, Fresh Daily was at the top. He’s one of my very favorite breakout new emcees, creative, complex and blessed with a bulletproof flow. He’s also been making all the right moves, which is just as important as actual talent. Here, we’re talking labels, album production, business role models, and more…

Patric "Astroblack" Brown
Posted by Justin Boland on Jan 03, 2011 | 0 Comments
In the music business, there’s nothing more valuable than smart, hard-working and genuinely friendly people. That’s exactly why Patric Brown had such an awesome 2010, and that’s why we’ll be hearing more about him in the future, too. I’ve been interviewing artists for a long time on Audible Hype, and for 2011 I want to expand into other industry roles. Patric — known to many thousands of hip hop heads around the world as “Astroblack” — has serious experience working just about every angle, from merch to management. He dropped a lot of gems here and I’m grateful for the interview. Dig it.

Fresh Music: THE WUDOS BAND
Posted by Justin Boland on Jan 02, 2011 | 0 Comments
It’s no secret that Back Brain Media basically runs on Budos Band. Writing, coding, designing, slogging through a couple hundred emails: more often than not, high-decibel Budo-funk is the soundtrack. This mashup EP from Tekst, the producer / lyricist / business, man from The Higher Concept, remixes Budos grooves into instrumental tracks for classic Wu Tang verses. This is so perfect it kinda staggers the brain that nobody’s already done this, you know?

Facebook Profile Refacing: The New Way to Spamvertise
Posted by Mic King on Dec 17, 2010 | 0 Comments
The first great interview on Audible Hype was with Philadelphia “Third Renaissance” man Mic K!ng, formerly known as iCON the Mic King. As we get Audible Hype fired up for a powerful and productive 2011, there’s going to be a lot more guest content…and I’m honored to have Mic K!ng start us off. Enjoy.
